Lesson Forty
Acts 22:1-30

1. In the previous chapter (Acts 21:35, 36), Luke gives a picture of what the crowd was like.

(a) What did he call the crowd, and was this a peaceful bunch?

(b) Can you find other passages where the crowd was described like this and has some of the same wording?

(c) What was the underlying reason for their actions in this passage and the passages you listed for (b)?

2. In Acts 22:1 Paul, after silencing the crowd, starts his defense of who he is and what had happened to him to bring him to this point.

(a) Can you think of why Paul starts out with his defense the way he did and why it would be important to his hearers?

(b) Give the differences, if any, from his account of what happened to him here and from his other accounts.

(c) Are you able to give an accurate account to others of what God has done for you?

3. What happened to make the mob so angry as Luke tells in verse 22?

4. Describe what it was like for a person to go through a scourging.

5. Can you think of another time that Paul pulled rank and used his Roman citizenship?

6. Was this just a coincidence that Paul was a Roman citizen or did God have a hand in this?

7. Why was the commander so afraid after he found out that Paul was a Roman citizen?

8. List a lesson that we can learn from this passage!
