John 8:12-27 – Lesson 19

1. In verse 12 Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." What did He mean by: (a) light of the world.

(b) walk in darkness.

2. From previous study, what were the Pharisees referring to in verse 13?

3 Write down your comments on Jesus’ answer to the Pharisees, from verses 14-18.

4. Give comments on the question the Pharisees had in verse 19 and the answer that Jesus gave them.

5. Jesus told them in verse 21 that He was going away. Where was He going and why did the Pharisees not understand that?

6. In verse 23, what did Jesus mean by "He was not of this world, but you are of this world"?

7. What would be some reasons for the Pharisees’ question in verse 25, "Who are you?" Give some comments on Jesus’ answer to them in verse 26, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning."

8. Verse 27 says, "They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father." Why did they not understand? Give verses for your answer.

9. After reading and studying this passage, do you understand that Jesus is who He says that He is, or are you like the Pharisees, still not understanding?

10. Make some applications from the verses in this study and pray about applying them.
