If you would turn with me in your Bibles to Hebrews chapter 8 and this morning, Lord willing, we conclude that chapter.  It's been quite a delight to learn more about this new covenant.  The one it we just talked about Terry talked about as reminded us again as we do every Sunday that the cup represents the new covenant in Christ blood Prince this list.  This new covenant that we've been talking about in Hebrews 8 the author is going through this is one of his his big themes in this section talking about covenant is will talk about sacrifice.
And so this been a wonderful theme and I hope that today we can wrap that up so that we get the point of what he's been trying to drive home for us in this chapter, there comes a time to put away the old and then welcome in the new 10 years ago when we kind I were flying to your children bring them home.  They that we were riding on an in country flights when we landed in Moscow and where to go from there to the city where the girls work and on the in country flight was very different from international flights.  We had and they plainly we got on the first problem was the pilot looked like he was all of 12 years old that was a little scary, but the plane was the exact opposite it look like it was 112 years old and CEC on the outside looked horrible.  And so were think it okay you know it didn't look like those in need a crash damage on it so you may work at a walk-in is worse, begin there's there's things missing parts missing stuff that was there was a really well-worn on the warning he had wires hanging down.  I just you in here in Tulsa, where you know the fix stuff like that for American airlines you just don't expect to find a plane like that and as it was a lot of it was broken, so there was a missing is broken or worn out and you know, I know there's a difference between you know the mechanics of the plane than just the of the cabin and things like that but just didn't instill much confidence and make matters worse, there were group of Russian soldiers in uniform who boarded the plane as well and they all huddled in one section, together in the first thing they did.  Could you imagine yes popped up about hard they were hitting it hard and the other pass around only because the old they saw we saw and they think a lot more than we had to.  And so they decided that they you know we all knew we couldn't trust in the plane they decided to trust in the bottle okay in a dispute knock me out you know and hopefully you know we hit ground.  It's that you know a landing and not crash and so the point is that some things grow old and they need to be done away with that plane sure look like you need to be done away with the need to be retired it obviously the mechanics of it were as bad as they looked because he helps to hear, but when something new comes along, then it's definitely time to take the Oakland same is true about the old covenant that God made with Israel,@nine that the mountain as he laid that mosaic law covenant out for them as to how they were to live before him.  There came a day when it would be retired and he did retired that day came when Jesus took up his high priestly ministry and died on the cross that new covenant in his blood that new covenant when he when he brought that into effect.  It was retired the old was retired the new covenant that Kenyan was a different kind of covenant.  We talked about how different it is one of the differences is that the new covenant is an eternal covenant both Testaments talk about it, the book of Hebrews mentions it several places the old talk about it being either an everlasting covenant or eternal covenant is not one that will grow old.  They can't grow old because it is the new covenant in his blood.  Jesus won't grow old his blood will grow old, it will come a point where God's is okay we have we would know with absolute land see your something like you is or is in a or B the cross was planning and it is not that new covenant is not going to grow old was looking out a passage, going back up and begin reading in verse six Paris to the end of the chapter Hebrews chapter 8 in verse six and this is talking here about Jesus.  Now he Jesus has obtained a more excellent ministry more excellent than the Old Testament priests the high priest in particular by as much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant which is been enacted on better promises is that first covenant the mosaic covenant had been faultless that would've been no occasion sought for second for finding fault with them, he says, behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will affect a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day went to them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, for they did not continue in my covenant and I did not care for them, says the Lord for this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord I will put my laws into their minds.  I will write them upon their hearts and I will be there, God and they shall be my people, and they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen and everyone his brother, saying, moreover, why for all shall know me from the least to the greatest of them why, for I will be merciful to their iniquities and I will remember their sins no more.  He concludes with this when he said a new covenant is made the first obsolete but whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear father we come before you this morning and asked for your spear to fill each of us that we might understand the text before us that we might know how it applies to us that we would learn to trust fully in the new covenant by looking to the old or any other way.  The looking only to the new covenant may your spirit work in my mind and my soul that I might speak those things that clearly explain the passage and that stir each one of us up to greater faith in our Lord Jesus in a greater appreciation and worship of him whose name we pray like those Russian soldiers we all knew that trusting in that plane was misplaced trust when you better than that which you know it's not always obvious to everyone that something is an unworthy object and worthy of our trust.  For example, think about the the pious Jewish sect that exiled themselves to the Dead Sea area during the time when this was written we refer to them as the scenes they were Jews who had seen there were spiritual problems in Israel people were keeping the law and so what they wanted to do was try to bring Israel back to God and back to the old covenant and they meant well.  They they have a heart for reform they wanted to see Israel return to God but their understanding of Scripture was it went awry because when they read the passages like in Jeremiah 31 and others that talk about this new covenant.  They didn't understand what God was actually saying that he thought he was calling for a renewal of the old covenant.  And so it's possible that was that was putting pressure on the readers of this letter the folks in this church may have been either this particular teaching of that Dead Sea sect or something similar because they influenced a lot of Jews and so the they may have felt like okay you know this new covenant is just a renewal of the old so it's all you know, just basically this is that ourselves up and let's have a New Zealander New Zealand push for the old covenant and it would've called it old but for that the law of Moses and in so we know that some from this church actually went back to Judaism and it may have been what would influence them
