Turn with me in the word of God to Hebrews chapter 8. Hebrews chapter 80 you look at verse 10 was a Peter from ever writing with you to pray for steak restaurant daily to think bigger have noticed McDonald’s you know like the fries but Hebrews chapter 8 and this ever happen to you you go somewhere in a at the desk they present you with either a received or document and its that real nicely coated paper. And so they they hand you a ballpoint hand and you try to ride on it you ever had that happen. It’s great that the papers great for printing having photos on something that is terrible right. That’s it. So you’re trying to write with it in there’s no resistance to make the little ball and European role you know it’s a unit with you try to your signature and is to spot you are spot you know and you’re like okay that’s not working. And so, then the hand you a felt tip pen okay let’s worse okay because you know the comes out just fine. He reported lowballed the now it’s all over everything to try to write it on your hands in your just like you know if you hear smears on every and compare that with writing on really good writing paper something that was designed for writing and so you sign your name and there’s enough resistance on the paper to make a little ball roller for using a felt tip pen you know it is just right because it the paper the fibers in the paper. They’re not coded over with something. And so are able to absorb to receive the EE and everything just nice and if you’ve ever been to hobbies like calligraphy things were writing is a big deal really can appreciate good writing paper now you imagine trying to use a ballpoint pen. I polished rock think about that for minute. It’s like an effort in futility because that that’s even slicker than paper been coated paper. And so you know it’s not going to work how much more pleasant it is to have the right paper for us to write on will are old stony hearts before we knew Christ before we trust in him were not receptive to the ink of God’s word if he were to try to write on it. It would just be splotchy at best really those old stony hearts would just basically repel God’s word what needed to happen was for God to go into our heart and just rip it out that old stony heart taken, and then replace it with one that was tender and pliable one that like good writing paper would receive his word he we need it was for him to give us that new heart and then write his word on that new heart that new heart is the new inner man that has an entirely new outlook on God’s word on his law if you’re not a believer in Jesus Christ. This is precisely your problem you have the stony heart in it, even though you may try to obey God’s law times what you find is that you’re not only not able to obey which are not able to want to obey it properly. You may want to because you’re trying to earn your way into God’s favor or for some other reason to look good among know people around you, but it is an effort in futility it will always be an effort in futility until you trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you trust in him. Then what happens is he does go in there he takes out that old stony heart and he puts in its place. This tender heart. That’s pliable one that is receptive to God’s law that comes to us under the new covenant. The new covenant work were learning about here in Hebrews a so how is having a new heart and having God right his law on that hard a change us was to look into this morning so like you follow with me Hebrews chapter 8. Emma started verse seven. The writer explained for if that first covenant the old covenant. The law of Moses. If it had been faultless that would’ve been no occasion sought for a second for finding fault with them the ancient Israelites, he says, behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will affect a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, for they did not continue in my covenant and I did not care for them, says the Lord for this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord I will put my laws into their minds and I will write them upon their hearts and I will be there, God and they shall be my people, and they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen and everyone his brother, saying know the Lord for all shall know me from the least to the greatest of them for I will be merciful to their iniquities and I will remember their sins no more when he said a new covenant is made the first obsolete but whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear to the writer is doing here is he’s trying to develop this theme of this new covenant and in order to show how it is superior to that old covenant he reaches back in history to Jeremias prophecy Jeremias prophecy about the new covenant itself is so we grants from that that this it’s longer than we have here he grabs from that the this list of promises that God makes under this new covenant and he showing that they are better promises. Then what was was offered of the old covenant last week we began looking into the first promise that’s giving here in verse 10 we saw in our first part number one when will this take place when will this new covenant take place and we said it would be sometime after the Babylonian captivity because when when Jeremiah wrote it when God gave in that prophecy what was going on at the time is that they were at the tail end of these the Babylonian siege on Jerusalem a lot of people very been carried away they were German try to give them hope and now he’s writing to those that are getting ready to be carried away in and that’s finally all over Jerusalem be destroyed the temple itself would be destroyed and he saying after those days after the Babylonian captivity is has been fulfilled any of his ended sometime after that is when this new covenant will happen and we said was that it would be until Jesus would come when he would actually effect effect that covenant when he would inaugurate that covenant when he would put it into the places. We we celebrated here at the Lord’s table member Jesus is the new covenant in my blood I shedding his blood. He inaugurated the new covenant. He became the mediator of that better covenant. And so there there from that point on the people who live live under that new covenant people in the Old Testament look forward to by faith in what Jesus would do in the new covenant and they were saved by that same new covenant that they were looking forward as we look back on that new covenant that was inaugurated and now we live under it under the new covenant in there is a time when he says the case with the house of Israel the house of Judah that there is a time as Paul talks about Romans nine through 11 when he’s going to do this work of the new covenant in a large way to those who had rejected him for so long is going to come to Israel and God loves to do the impossible he loves to do that which seems unattainable in this house the deepest divided house Judah and Israel he’s going to bring them together he’s going to restore their he’s going to save them in that day is a to bring the the fullness of that new covenant to bear to show us that I can accomplish the impossible
