2) John writes to the young men because they have overcome the wicked one. (a) How is it possible for us to overcome the wicked one? See I John 4:4, and 5:4,5.

 

 

 

 

 

(b) Read Christ's account with Satan in the wilderness in Matthew 4:1-11 and make note of all the ways that Christ overcame the wicked one.

 

 

 

 

 

(c) How does Christ's example encourage and equip you as you resist the wicked one?

 

 

 

 

 

3) John writes to the little children in I John 2:12 because their sins are forgiven them for His name's sake. Read Leviticus 16:20-22, and answer the following questions. (a) What animal was used to bear the sins of the Israelites?

 

 

(b) What happened to that animal?

 

 

(c) Was it seen again?

 

 

(d) How does this help you to understand what "forgiveness of sins" means?

 

 

 

 

 

(e) In contrast, as New Testament saints, what was the sacrifice that was made for the forgiveness of our sins? (See Hebrews 9:11-22; 10:4-18)

 

 

 

 

 

(f) What does having your sins forgiven mean to you?
