Memory Verse I John 2:25 1) Read I John 2:23-27. What characterizes a genuine believer according to these verses?
2) (a) Why does John say in verse 23 and 24 that to deny, confess, or to continue with the Son is the same as to deny, confess, or to continue with the Father? See John 10:30,38; 14:9-10; 17:21.
(b) What do the following passages teach you regarding this union of the Father and the Son? II Cor. 4:4; Col. 1:15; Hebrews 1:1-3.
3) (a) Who is given eternal life? See Matthew 25:46; John 17:2; Romans 2:5-7; James 1:12.
(b) What is eternal life? See John 14:3; 17:3; II Tim. 2:11,12; Rev. 22:1-5.
(c) When was eternal life first promised? Titus 1:2.
(d) How did Jesus reiterate this promise while on earth? John 3:15,16,36; 6:40,47,57.
4) I John says in verse 24 of chapter 2, that believers remain and continue in the Son. What do the following passages teach you about this marvelous truth and how this "remaining and continuing" is possible? John 10:27-30. Romans 8:38,39; Phil. 1:6; II Tim. 1:12; I Peter 1:3-5.
5) (a) Do you think that John is teaching in I John 2:27 that we do not need others to teach us? Support your answer with Scripture.
6) (a) Have you confessed the Father and the Son?
(b) Are you continuing with the Father and the Son?
If you answered yes to both of these questions, then rejoice, as you will continually live with the Father and the Son! If you answered no to either of these questions, then I would encourage you to repent and turn to Him!
7) How would you explain eternal life to someone who asked you what it meant?
8) Do you know anyone who is being seduced by false teachers?
