Memory Work: Matthew 7:7-12

1. What is the meaning of each of these words in regard to prayer?

2. (a) What are the results of asking, seeking and knocking in Matthew 7:7-8?

3. Review what Jesus has taught in His sermon thus far concerning a kingdom citizen (Matthew 5:1-7:6).
(a) Which of God's requirements should we continually ask Him to help us obey?

(b) What are some of the things we pray for instead? (See Matthew 6:31-33; James 4:3)

4. Read Matthew 7:9-10. (a) What are some ways that sinful, earthly fathers provide and care for their children?

(b) What attributes of God assure us that He will always answer our prayers perfectly?

5. Read Luke 11:5-13. (a) What similar principle does Jesus teach in the parable of the persistent friend?

(b) What gift does Jesus specifically say that our Heavenly Father will give those who ask Him in Luke 11:13?

6. (a) Why do you think Christians don't rely on the promises of God to answer their prayers?

(b) What happens when we try to obey Jesus' teaching in the Sermon on the Mount in our own power?

7. (a) From what you have learned from Jesus' teaching in Matthew 7, what does verse 12 refer to?
